Reindustrialize Spain. An agreement between generations
The talk will give a brief historical overview of the pillars that have supported the advances in prosperity of countries in the last two centuries, with industrial development being one of the fundamental ones. Subsequently, it will focus on the last few decades, in which many regions and advanced countries have undergone a process of deindustrialization to varying degrees, and the economy has become more service-oriented. Industry has lost weight in the economy and in policy.
However, at present, there is a global race to maintain and recover industry. This is a new industry that is much more sustainable and environmentally friendly and requires high levels of technological knowledge.
The talk will conclude with a look at Euskadi, which, along with Navarra, is one of the two communities in the state that have managed to defend their industry (as explained in the previous intervention by one of the main players in industrial policy in recent decades). Although we start from a better situation, we must also redouble our efforts to maintain industrial leadership in this context of increased competition.
